I say this often, but it bears repeating. Our students are not the future of the church; they are already full fledged members of God's family! They have unique gifts and abilities through the Holy Spirit that are just waiting to be identified and put into practice to serve the Church and the world around us.
One of my joys as Director of Student Ministry is walking them through this process of growth and maturity.
In fact, that's precisely what we intend them to learn and identify at Fall Retreat this year. We want to help them to "grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ" as our theme verse for the retreat says in Ephesians 4:15. Maturity is simply embracing God's love for us by loving him and serving those around us.
Fall Retreat will focus on resting in this reality as well as equipping them for their own ministry. We'll guide them through a spiritual gifts assessment and help them to put these gifts and abilities into action to bless others.
I am really excited for the students to hear from our speaker, Jared Moine. He was my high school small group leader and currently serves as a high school pastor in California. I am one of many examples of the students that he has mentored and encouraged to live out their faith, to embrace God's call on our lives.
It's important for us to always be seeking God, looking for that next step, big or small, as we follow Jesus. Fall Retreat is a great way for students to slow down to hear from God, as well as discover their place within God's family. We hope you'll join us for a great weekend together!
