Partnering with you in your child's formation
As our Palm Sunday Parade made its way through the hallways of our buildings yesterday, your children were waving palms and shouting ‘Hosanna!’ They studied the events of Holy Week in their classrooms and learned that the hope of Jesus comes even in the midst of pain and suffering. They quietly sat in Children’s Chapel as the older elementary students helped lead the younger ones through the Children’s Stations of the Cross.
It was a somber time and the children responded accordingly. There was no laughter, no wiggles; just quiet listening. But by the time the children left Sunday School, they were focused on the Easter Celebration coming up this Saturday and talking about petting zoos, pony rides, and facepainting.
We are at the beginning of Holy Week. It is a heavy time during Lent, filled with the betrayal, pain, and suffering of our precious Lord. We will walk in His footsteps and learn from Him, all the while remembering that death did not get the last word. Our hope is in Christ and we look towards the Resurrection and faithful promises of our amazing God.
So as petting zoos and marshmallow peeps get your child’s attention this week, do not despair. Keep teaching them, helping them to focus on Jesus. These are the seeds that God is planting for a lifetime of faith.
