When I was a child, I loved going to school. Every year, the night before the first day of school, I was like a kid at Christmas. I couldn’t sleep; I couldn’t think about anything but the next day and the year to come.
And this continued to be the case even through college. One of my favorite things was shopping for all of the supplies I would need for school. Even now as an adult, I can’t wait to get all of my kids’ school supplies.
As I have begun my new role as Local Outreach Coordinator and I have met with Christ Church’s agency partners, I have seen this same zeal in them. The adults at these agencies look to the coming year with hope for the work God intends to do in their ministries and with excitement to see the ways He will bless children spiritually and physically. They especially look forward to Kids in Need.
The backpacks we collect with Kids in Need allow families in poverty to look to the coming school year with joy instead of trepidation. When they see the backpacks we donate, they see God’s great provision and His love for them.
I am always amazed at the miraculous ways God works to fulfill His plans, and how He brings us all together to play a part in those plans. Romans 12:4-5 says “For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” Keeping with what Christ has called us to do—loving and serving one another—let’s come together as one body and be the hands and feet of Jesus to our community now.
This is the last week to pick up a Kids in Need backpack tag. Will you pray about joining our church-wide effort?
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
