Children's Ministry Overview

We provide children with age-appropriate encounters with Jesus Christ through worship, Bible study, and opportunities to serve others. We also encourage parents in their role as the primary teachers and spiritual guides in the lives of their children.

Sunday School @ 9:15 & 11 a.m.

Preschool-5th Grade. Sunday School is the focal point of Children’s Ministry. Children study God’s word in classrooms that are brightly decorated and inviting to children. Caring teachers and assistants welcome the children, teach them from the Bible and reinforce the lesson through activities and crafts. Children have a time of worship each Sunday morning as well. Preschoolers worship together, learning a short Bible verse and singing songs to God with lots of motion and fun! Children in K–5th grade gather in the Children’s Chapel for high-energy songs, readings from scripture and liturgical prayers that draw from our Anglican heritage.

3-5th Grade Integrated Worship. We believe it is vital to include children in worship with their larger church family. For this reason, our third, fourth and fifth grade classes will start off in Sunday School, then join their families in the sanctuary during the peace for Holy Communion. We are excited to partner with parents and preparing these children for a lifetime of faithfulness to Christ and His church in this way.

Sunday Communion Discovery Class @ 9:15 & 11 a.m.

2nd Grade, Fast Track for 3-5th Grade. Understanding the Eucharist is central to instructing young Christians in the Anglican tradition. Communion Discovery guides students through teachings on the liturgy, Anglican theology, the Bible and communion itself. Students also meet with members of the clergy and Altar Guild. Coming to the communion rail will be a meaningful experience as students know what the prayers, symbols, and elements of communion mean. Communion Discovery encompasses the curriculum of 2nd grade Sunday school. In the spring, there is also a special fast track class for 2nd through 5th grade students who might have missed this class in Sunday school.

Wednesday GAP45 @ 6:30 - 8 p.m.

4-5th Grade. Our fourth and fifth graders meet midweek for a time of Bible study, games and hanging out with friends. GAP45 is intentionally designed to give pre-teens a time to build relationships with Jesus, their friends and adult volunteers in a setting fun for tweens. Students have an opportunity to purchase pizza and drinks before playing games and having a Bible study and small group discussion. GAP45 also sponsors events such as bowling, rock climbing, movie nights and an overnight retreat.

Special Events

Every year, Children’s Ministry hosts special events for Christ Church families to fellowship with one another, and as an opportunity to introduce friends and family to Christ Church. Our major events include the following:

Advent Fair. Advent is a special time in our faith to prepare our hearts for the Lord’s birth during Christmas. After a brief reflection on the traditions of Advent, families will visit stations around the room where they can build take-home crafts together.

Christmas Pageant. Children have a special opportunity to learn about the birth of Jesus by performing a traditional Christmas Pageant. Children preschool through 5th grade are welcome to participate.

Easter Celebration. A celebration festival held the Saturday before Easter. The Christ Church lawn is filled with games; bounce houses, face painting and crafts to celebrate Christ’s resurrection and victory over death.

Vacation Bible School (VBS). Every summer, Christ Church welcomes around hundreds children and volunteers to campus to learn about Jesus in a fun, energetic environment. High-energy music, games, crafts, and skits make the Bible come alive for children and adults alike!

Ways Parents Can Get Involved

Raising children to be disciples of Jesus Christ is a daunting task. Fortunately, you don’t have to do it alone! Christ Church Family Ministries want to encourage and equip you for your God-given task of parenting your children. We partner with parents in several ways:

  1. Parenting Seminars. Several times a year, we meet with parents to talk over the spiritual lives of their children. These seminars provide time to reflect and discuss with clergy and connect with other parents.
  2. Volunteering in Children’s Ministry is also a great way to invest in your child’s spiritual life as well as get to know other parents at Christ Church. Opportunities range from teaching Sunday school to greeting parents and children as they arrive on Sunday mornings. Contact the Children’s Ministry staff regarding opportunities to volunteer in this important ministry!
