In my bulletin article a few weeks back I wrote that the act of “giving thanks” is never out of season. That’s because gratitude is always our response to the Gospel, and the Gospel is for every season. (Praise God!) This Gospel-gratitude doesn’t stop with us, however; it overflows outwards and transforms people and communities with the love and hope of Jesus Christ as we seek to serve and witness to others.
As the author of Hebrews writes, “Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe” (Hebrews 12:28).
Two opportunities that we have at Christ Church to offer our service to others are Thanksgiving Outreach and Angel Tree. Thanksgiving Outreach has shared Christ’s love with impoverished families in our area. We assembled and delivered over 500 thanksgiving meals this past weekend. If you participated in this event, thank you for showing your Gospel-gratitude with us! The other opportunity is our Angel Tree gift drive which ministers to disadvantaged members of our community by providing over 800 donated Christmas gifts to families and seniors.
You have the opportunity to get involved in the gift drive today. More information about Angel Tree - click here . Please prayerfully consider picking up a tag and donating a gift any time before the drive closes on December 10.
With a thankfulness that comes from the Gospel alone, may we gladly share the hope of Christ as we serve others in need. May we joyfully echo David’s prayer in 1 Chronicles 29 this holiday season: “Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of Israel… all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.”
