“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers (and sisters), you did it to me.” – Matthew 25:40
Kids in Need is a annual outreach event at Christ Church, mobilizing the efforts of hundreds of parishioners to meet a very practical need in our community: new backpacks and school supplies for families who can't afford them.
We plan to collect, or purchase with donations, 700 backpacks and fill them with school supplies through Kids in Need. The supplies and backpacks will be given to Christ Church's partnering outreach agencies who, in turn, will distribute them to the families they serve.
Kids in Need is a boon to the efforts of those relieving poverty and it creates pathways for Christian ministry. Hundreds of families receive support through Kids in Need through our relationship with community agencies like Allen Community Outreach, Assistance Center of Collin County, Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County, City House, For the Nations, HIS BridgeBuilders, House of Prayer, The Mission, Samaritan Inn, Templo De Altisimo.
Get the whole family involved in the act of giving. We would love to receive donations of new, sturdy backpacks from those who are able.
Please deposit your donation at a drop off location inside Archgate, the Chapel, or the Fellowship Hall on the weekends of July 21 or 28.
A monetary gift can greatly help us reach our 650 backpack goal. Please designate checks or envelopes by writing “Kids in Need” on the memo line. They may be placed in the offering plate or delivered to the Ministry Center offices during the week. You can also give online with a credit card or eCheck.
We need over 50 volunteers to assist with collecting, sorting, and preparing the backpacks for delivery. Volunteer opportunities are available the weekends of July 14 and 21, on Sunday, July 28 after the services until 3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, and during the week of July 29 – August 2. To volunteer, Send an RSVP using the form below.
For more information, contact Jeff Reaves at JReaves@ChristChurchPlano.org or 214-291-5012.
Donation attendants assist parishioners by receiving donated backpacks and supplies. They serve for 30 minutes. At the end of their shift, they move donated items to the Fellowship Hall.
Volunteers set up for Sunday packing. We will be setting out supplies, getting things organized, and building boxes to make sure we are prepared for Sunday.
Volunteers prepare backpacks and school supplies for delivery to outreach agencies. Serving will be after the services until all backpacks are sorted and filled. All serving options are after the services so everyone is able to worship with their families. Please check all you are interested in attending. Lunch will be served after the 11 a.m. service.
Volunteers deliver backpacks to local agencies using their pickup truck or SUV. Serving times are flexible. 6 volunteers are needed.
Childcare is available for children of volunteers, ages 0-10, until 3 p.m. Nursery will contact you if they require more information.
